Although it was hot, it was definitely a lovely sunny afternoon in Atlanta and Georgia Piano Rebuilders was on their way out to a brand new town called Milton located just north of Alpharetta. There seems to be a rash of new towns around Atlanta these last couple of years, but this has to be the most picturesque. Hilly and loaded with trees and lots of pastureland it is very quaint indeed.
The Cinderella Piano
The door was answered by a young woman who showed us into her living room. There sat the ugliest upright piano I have seen in a while. Ugly because a very long time ago someone had felt the urge to paint it white.
It was confirmed to me that beauty is most surely in the eye of the beholder as she explained that they had the opportunity to come into possession of this piano about 5 years ago and they took it because – they loved it! Like I said…………!
She went on to say that they have dragged it around with them and were now at a time in there lives when they were ready to get it fixed up and set into a place of honor in the front hall. Most likely no one would play it much but if they could just get it to sound OK and do something about the looks, they would be happy.
Taking A Look At The Inside
We took it apart to check out the action, strings, felts and so on. Bill, the piano refinisher noticed the original wood showing on the inside wall of the case and pointed it out to me. Suddenly, I caught my breath. I hadn’t seen a mahogany wood as beautiful as what we were looking at for a long time. Now I was truly excited! We were going to be given the opportunity to refinish this piano and see it come back to it’s original glory.
We went over all the details of what exactly would be done to the piano and then made arrangements for our customer to bring her husband to our shop to look at some of the pianos we were working on. Is your piano ready for you to play it? Can Georgia Piano Rebuilders help your piano?
